Life Timeline Highlights:

Born in Michigan as the 7th child of eight and raised in a down-to-earth family and instilled with the values of hard work and fair play. My roots are in Hillsdale, Michigan, proudly graduating High School as a Hillsdale Hornet. Spent a lot of time in high school learning Tae Kwon Do, waterskiing on the lake, drawing, drafting (architecture), acting in drama club (badly), and playing football (was not all-American, or even all-State, in fact, got tackled and fumbled, a lot).

After graduating high school, attended Michigan State University. Supported myself through college, while working at a campus laboratory in microbial ecology as a lab assistant and majorly assisted in bench research for one published microbial ecology paper, which has an interesting back-story tied to central Ohio (and I would love to tell you about it) . Upon graduation, worked to save up enough money to travel to Europe briefly and then worked a summer as a camp counselor, while developing the camp archery program (no one was injured, that I can recall).

Thereafter, embarked on my medical school journey, heading to the Pacific Coast and attending the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine and then onto internship/residency in Family Medicine at the Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine. I quickly found out falling down on a snowboard is a good way to break bones and instead settled for the relative safety of learning the craft of house restoration and remodeling (power tools seemed so much safer!) - Started working on my first "this old house", restoring a 1799 Classic New England Cape to its original hand hewn beams, horsehair plaster walls, and pumpkin pine/king's pine floors. Lucky to still have all 10 fingers.

Fresh out of residency, opened my first private practice in my home town Hillsdale, MI, September 2000. The rest is mainly a lot of hard work trying to take care of patients and dealing with the stress of trying to keep the government and insurance companies happy (or at least off my back).

Current Interests:

Pretending to be a chef at home (I love the science of cooking)

Trying to exercise and eat healthy (something we all need to do)

Playing guitar (I have no natural talent, but I love it)

Drawing/Painting/Pottery (I probably have talent, but I'm lazy in this regard)

Politics (a futile interest!)

Computer games (PC only - and I'm not really a gamer, to be fair)
